So far pretty happy November 8, 2008 I got this litter box about a week ago. I have two cats and live in a VERY small condo. Only 600 square feet. I love my cats but can't stand the smell of a litter box. I have tried every product and have not been as satisfied as this one so far. I think there is less smell than ever and there is NO litter covering my floors! I changed out the pee pad for the first time and couldn't believe that after sitting there a week I couldn't smell cat pee. I scoop the poo out about twice a day but it's much easier to do than a traditional cat litter box. The only concern I have is that my younger cat is not completely solid. Her poo is quite soft at times. So I end up having to scoop out more of the litter than you're supposed to. Also I sometimes have to wipe out poo streaks with a clorox wipe because the runny poo sticks to the box since there is less litter than a traditional box. I also am having to change out the litter completely on a more regular basis because the poo sticks to the litter and I don't like the idea of my cats walking through little pieces of poo in the box. But, because I'm willing to change it out more often and scoop twice a day, and wipe with clorox wipes, I believe this is the best cat box yet. It's the first time ever I've been able to walk into my tiny condo and not go PU I smell cats. I love it! :)
Great product November 5, 2008 The Breeze system is definitely aptly named. I have been using this system for about six months now, and though it took about five days for my cats to grow accustomed to it, I am so very glad that I took the "leap" to changing litter systems. I had been using crystals for quite some time prior to Breeze, and though I was fairly happy with how they worked, I did not like the fact that they tracked all over the place. Breeze barely tracks--occasionally a couple of pieces of pellets can be found outside of the box, but I think that it is mostly due to my two cats spreading the litter around the box and some of it getting "kicked" out. My only complaint with the pellets is that it's more difficult for the cats to bury their poop, so if it's a "fresh" one, it can smell until it dries out a bit. It's a big help to scoop the poop out a couple of times a day, morning and evening. When you scoop, most of the pellets fall through the scoop, so I almost always just turn around and flush the poop. (The litter box is in my spare bathroom under the sink behind curtains.) I agree with other reviewers who say that the poop smells a little more than with other kinds of litter. However... The job that Breeze does with cat pee and its smell is well worth a little more poop smell. The pads are super absorbent and really "suck up" the pee without making a mess. The pad has a vinyl back, so the pad tray stays dry (unless you forget to change the pad). I just fold the pad into thirds and dump it in the trash. I then put a new pee pad in the tray, and it's good to go. Just a quick note: I have two cats and two Breeze systems side-by-side. My cats have chosen to (mostly) use one Breeze box to pee in, and the other to poop in. Thus, i have to change the pad in the "pee" box approximately every three days. Since my two felines seem to use one end (actually one spot) of the "pee box," I have to rotate the tray (Turn it around 180 degrees) after a day and a half of use. Whatever Purina puts in that pad--boy does it absorb! Not just does it absorb the liquid, but also the odor. And there's nothing worse than the smell of old cat pee! Yuck! I change the pellets in each box once each month as specified in the Breeze directions. I think that the cost of the Breeze system just about equals the cost of using crystals, however because the pee pads absorb so much liquid-- that translates into much less weight of the new product to carry around. So, for those of you who don't like to lift, this is the system for you. One more note: Definitely follow the directions that Purina gives you for making the transition to the Breeze system. (I misread the directions, and it didn't work at first).
Not a Huge Deal October 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We happened to see this at Walmart one day and thought we'd give it a try, fully expecting that the cats may not like it. We set it up in our room and let them sniff around it and get used to it. After a while, I placed each cat in the box and let them get used to the feel of the litter. Then I even showed them that they could dig in it (in the past, lifting their paws in the new litter and making a digging motion was all they needed to realize that's where the poop goes).
Our two males switched to the new litter the first night. They didn't protest or use the floor instead. I didn't need to let their litter get dirty. I simply placed the new box where the old one was, and no problems since.
Since there isn't anything to cover the poop, it does get a little smelly, but I don't think it's any worse than the old litter box. I scoop it out every other day, which takes about a minute. Some of the pellets stick to the poop, since they still try to cover it, but I only lose about 10 pellets every few days. I haven't had to buy any more yet, and it's been 2 1/2 weeks (supposed to last a month).
The pad has been in for just a day under a week and I smell nothing. The ammonia was the main problem I was having with the old system so I greatly appreciate this new system. Some owners are saying their pads only last about 3 days, I don't know what the difference is between their cats and ours, but our pad has been fine. Maybe our cats don't drink nearly as much water.
In my opinion, if you can stand to lose $35 or have a friend who wants to try it if you decide to give up, then go for it. You may just like it.
great system October 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Besides the dust from clumping litter getting into every nook, and the litter being tracked everywhere the cat goes, we decided to try the Breeze system because my 15 year old cat, in the beginning phases of his dementia or something, has to put his paw in the water to drink. That made for a very dirty container of water when he was done because his paw was clumped up from litter, not to mention what he drank from that "tainted" water. So I was constantly changing his water, but I'm not around 24/7 so this seemed to be the perfect answer.
It took him about a week to accept the change. The instructions call for placing the box next to the old one, but space is not available to it was the new one only. He peed no problem but the poopie came almost a week later. Luckily I was home the first days to monitor.
It's been over 2 months now and he's gotten his system down: pee in the back of the box, poop in the front, but sometimes the back. (thank goodnes he figured that out as in the beginning, he tried to pee in the front of the box and missed it entirely and peed on the floor instead.) I don't mind that he doesn't always cover his poop. When it dries, there is no smell. (and I'm not home to catch that first wave, thankfully)
The pee pad only lasts 2 days for my 1 cat. He drinks a lot of water. The first week, I forgot and didn't change it until the 5th day. It was horrible. Luckily, the pan is right next to the toilet so I was able to spill it out. Thank goodness for latex gloves and Clorox wipes.
The pellets get all soggy and clumpy it they are not moved around after a pee. And my cat's pee STINKS. So, I sprinkle baking soda on top of the wet litter before going over it with the scoop. Broken bits do fall down onto the pad. And I sprinkle new pellets every month to refresh the level.
Overall, I love the Breeze. No dust, but there is tracking. I've found pellets 2 rooms away but in the overall picture, it's nothing new to find litter bits all over the place. Best of all, I don't have to hound the cat about dipping his paw into the water anymore.
Good but in the long term expensive, however................. October 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A good system. I have a female cat that likes to dig to Australia and tracks litter every where and an older male cat.
She likes corn/wheat litter in a Booda Dome box and he likes Crystals in a littermaid.
Me, I would like an odor free, litter tracking free condo! So hence this purchase.
She took to it no problem. He well his vote is not in yet. The Littermaid has gone but he does have a regular no frills litter box with crystals and the Breeze. So we shall see.
Pellets - expensive but I suspect that they will be no more expensive than the crystals. Pads - a crazy price. Note that there are pads out there that are chux impregnated with sodium bicarb for odor control and they are way cheaper and under 20 cents per pad.
