Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
Great love stories thrive on sacrifice. Throughout The Twilight Saga (Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse), Stephenie Meyer has emulated great love stories--Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights--with the fated, yet perpetually doomed love of Bella (the human girl) and Edward (the vampire who feeds on animals instead of humans). In Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final installment in the series, Bella’s story plays out in some unexpected ways. The ongoing conflicts that made this series so compelling--a human girl in love with a vampire, a werewolf in love with a human girl, the generations-long feud between werewolves and vampires--resolve pretty quickly, apparently so that Meyer could focus on Bella’s latest opportunity for self-sacrifice: giving her life for someone she loves even more than Edward. How close she comes to actually making that sacrifice is questionable, which is a big shift from the earlier books. Even though you knew Bella would make it through somehow, the threats to her life, and to her relationship with Edward, had previously always felt real. It’s as if Meyer was afraid of hurting her characters too much, which is unfortunate, because the pain Bella suffered at losing Edward in New Moon, and the pain Jacob suffered at losing Bella again and again, are the fire and the heart that drive the whole series. Diehard fans will stick with Bella, Edward, and Jacob for as many twists and turns as possible, but after most of the characters get what they want with little sacrifice, some readers may have a harder time caring what happens next. (Ages 12 and up) --Heidi Broadhead

Product Description
When you loved the one who was killing you, it left you no options. How could you run, how could you fight, when doing so would hurt that beloved one? If your life was all you had to give, how could you not give it? If it was someone you truly loved?

To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, a tumultuous year of temptation, loss, and strife have led her to the ultimate turning point. Her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or to pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fates of two tribes hangs.

Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating, and unfathomable, consequences. Just when the frayed strands of Bella's life--first discovered in Twilight, then scattered and torn in New Moon and Eclipse--seem ready to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed... forever?

The astonishing, breathlessly anticipated conclusion to the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn illuminates the secrets and mysteries of this spellbinding romantic epic that has entranced millions.

4 out of 5 stars Read For Yourself   November 30, 2008

I am almost hesitant to write a review for this considering how many people are voting positive reviews as "not helpful" just because they don't like the book. Therefore I will keep the details to a minimum. Just read the book and formulate your own opinion. There were a few things that I really did not like. A few things that I really liked.

She should write more about the Pack. Their group dynamic has always intrigued me, and the chapters from Jacobs POV were my favorite parts in this book.

The ending is very anti-climatic. I was hoping for some more carnage. Everyone gets their happy fuzzy ending, and of course it is left open for possible future books...

5 out of 5 stars Don't listen to bad reviews!   November 30, 2008

I was expecting to be disappointed after seeing the 1/5 star reviews, but I loved the book!! Way to go Stephenie Meyer; I loved the series.

5 out of 5 stars How else could it end?   November 30, 2008

I went out the day "Breaking Dawn" was released, purchased it and placed it on my shelf of things to read, among so many others. After all, it seemed so final, the end of the Bella, Edward and Jacob saga. So, during the Thanksgiving holidays, I decided it was time to tackle it while eating turkey! And although by now, I have heard or read several reviews that echoed fan disappointment, I was determined to read it and judge it for myself. I was going to savor every minute of the tale.

I depart from other reviewers and fans because I found Breaking Dawn to be exactly what I expected and somewhat predictable, after all, what other outcome could there be? Bella and Edward were destined (although there were times that I hoped Jacob would lose the battle, but win the war); marriage and a baby were in the stars for the star crossed lovers; Jacob had to find happiness (unlike some, I didn't find his imprinting on Nessie offensive, quite the contrary since it didn't appear sexual in nature, at least not yet); Bella had to become immortal (what were the other three books leading up to?); and a battle between the good vamps and the bad vamps was destined.

Did I enjoy this novel? Yes, but...not for the same reasons that I enjoyed the first three. This one seemed more mature (Yes, I am in my late 30's but enjoyed the series), and while it tackled some very mature issues (i.e., teen marriage, teen pregnancy, etc.) it was all very tastefully done. There weren't long, graphic sex scenes, but just impressions concerning what was happening and I think most parents would appreciate that. I also think it was a nice conclusion to a very enjoyable and entertaining series. All good things must come to an end, and while sometimes I prefer not to know how it all ended, I was ok with this one. I look forward to reading other Meyer novels, and will probably start with "The Host" since it is a couple books under Breaking Dawn on my shelf to read.

5 out of 5 stars Thrilling conclusion to the Saga   November 30, 2008

Very exciting conclusion to The Twilight Saga. I couldn't put it down! The way the book was divided into sections from Bella's viewpoint and Jacob's viewpoint added a good perspective to the book. I don't want to give away the gist of the final book, but it was not anything I would have anticipated which made it that much more thrilling. You can't read the other three and miss this one.

4 out of 5 stars Loved it! Stop reading the reviews and just read the book. Be your own judge!   November 30, 2008

I was so hesistant to read this book based on some of the negative reviews. However, while at the book store, I spoke to another Twilight Saga reader and she said, "ignore the reviews and instead read the book and judge for yourself." So that is what I did and the book definitely exceeded my expectations. It was awesome. I loved it. It was very engaging and I could barely put it down. I am honestly sad that the series is over and I have going to have to find something else to read:(
