Product Description
If you have a cat, then you know that forgetting to clean the litter box can leave you with a smelly and clumpy mess. Eliminate the daily hassle of scooping your cat's waste by hand, while maintaining a clean and odor free litter box that will keep you and your cat happy. The Litter-Robot Automated Self-Cleaning Litter Box is an automated and dependable cat litter waste removal box. A sensor detects when your cat enters and seven minutes after your cat leaves the box, the patented litter sifting system removes waste from the litter in a gentle and reliable fashion. A removable drawer collects the malodorous waste and can be pulled out and dumped every couple of days. Unlike other litter management systems, the Litter-Robot works with any standard clumping litter, litter crystals, pearls or biodegradable litter; and everything goes into a waste disposal drawer that lines with standard 8-gallon or 13-gallon trash bags. That means there are no special or costly accessories needed. The unit comes almost completely pre-assembled; simply put together the globe and base unit, plug in the 12 Volt AC adapter, add litter, and follow the instructions to program your unit with the electronic control panel. Make your life easier and give your cat a clean and safe waste environment.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best self-cleaning litter box   August 29, 2008
I have 3 cats & they broke two littermaid self-cleaning litter boxes so I decided to try this one & it works great.

2 out of 5 stars Great Idea but NOT for my cats   August 26, 2008
The Litter Robot is a great idea and perfect for us lazy Americans (yes me too) who want the unconditional love of a pet but are too lazy to clean up after them. My cats were terrified of the Litter Robot. I was surprised how large and scary-looking the device is when I took it out of the package. I followed the instructions to get my cats used to the device and never turned it on to keep them from being more frightened but after one month, they never used it. Perhaps it was entering the globe that frightened them? I have a scoop free automatic litter box which they adjusted to quite well and was looking to add another litter box to our home. When I called the Litter Robot customer service line, they referred me back to Amazon to return it, which surprised me also, since their manual states the device can be returned to them. So I guess if your cats are used to automatic litter boxes and entering dark confined areas to do their business, this product is for you.

1 out of 5 stars A true disaster for us!   August 25, 2008
This product was a disaster for us. We wanted an easier way to deal with cat litter in our expensive new home with fine wood floors and expensive carpeting.
This unit worked fine for a week, we followed all the instructions as to not scare the cat with it. Now we find, for the first time ever, that he has been peeing all over our new house.
We have ruined carpeting and expensive hardwood floors. Our oak floors are stained and will have to be removed, replaced, revarnished etc. Sections of both will have to be removed and remedied. This is going to cost us thousands of dollars to have fixed and we are not flush with cash since we just bought this new home. This litter box was a VERY costly mistake for us. We should have just kept using our $12 enclosed cat box from Wally World.
Be aware of the consequences if your cat does not like the box. This is a nightmare. It deserves minus 5 stars.

4 out of 5 stars It takes time.   August 25, 2008
Although I like this design, still it takes much time to have my cat get used to it. It should be much more friendly at this kind of price.

2 out of 5 stars even if your cats take to it, it's just not worth it.   August 22, 2008
I've had to give up on the robot because one of my cats just wouldn't take to it and start urinating on leather furniture. I followed all the instructions about accustomizing the cats to the robot, but to no avail.

That being said, even when the cats were using it regularly (a brief period), the robot created just about as much hassle as it prevented. Litter falls through the holes in the step and gets caught up in the useless filter and/or just falls beneath the bag meant to catch litter. There is no catch for the bag on the front of the drawer, which makes the perfect gap for litter to fall through: thoughtless design as far as I can tell.

When it comes time to clean this thing, I hope you have a backyard, a strong hose, and about an hour of time. The globe and tray are filled with nooks and crannies and folds and compartments that are all but impossible to clean. Honestly, I find it remarkable that a device with the sole purpose of making it more sanitary to have and clean up after a cat would be so difficult to clean. Yes, clumped litter falls through the waste ports as advertised, but litter also goes many other places, like beneath the bag, and esp in the brush ring that is supposed to seal the globe to the base. And since you have to use clumping litter, it's VERY difficult to get litter off the brush ring.

I had such high, high hopes for this thing. I wanted so bad for it to work. I installed it the first day and didn't give the cats a chance to acclimate themselves to it, so one urinated in the living room. So I went out and bought a litter box like their old one and followed the instructions on acclimating the cats (some old litter in the robot, the two next to one another, etc.). I cleaned the bottom of the litter tray, up to my elbows in sticky clumped litter, twice.

I did all I could, and I ended up with a pissed-on leather chair, one traumatized cat (the other couldn't care less), way too much time up to my elbows in litter, and a substantially lighter wallet.

Haven't yet seen about sending it back for a refund, so this "robot" sits dissembled in three garbage bags, which I glare at ruefully every time I walk past our spare room.

Unless you have magic cats, you just have to live with their piss and poo.
