About Our Dachshund Breeding Program
We have been Dachshund enthusiasts for more than forty years; actively showing and breeding for over twenty years.
Today our pups are born in my home office where the dams and their pups can receive constant attention. We have adjusted our schedules so there is someone at home at all times when the pups are young. When pups are ready - depends on the litter and how each matures - generally between five and seven weeks of age, they are moved into a secure play area in the middle of the house where they can socialize with the other dogs from the security of their pen. We temperament test our litters at seven weeks of age using the results to help determine the best home for that particular puppy's personality, strengths and weaknesses. At eight weeks of age we have the pups conformation assessed which helps us narrow down our choice for who we will run on in the coming months.

We DNA test our dogs for their PRA-cord1 status, using these results to help us decide who we will breed in the future. We CERF all our breeding stock at least every second year while they are part of the active breeding program as well as after they are retired to ensure we are not looking at late onset problems. At this time we have the patella checked by our local veterinary clinic only x-raying if the need arises.
We follow a minimal vaccination schedule: typically DA2PP at 8 or 9 weeks of age, 12 and 16 weeks; 1 year Rabies at 5 months of age followed by a 3-year booster a year later then every three years as required by law.
Buyer Requirements for Our Dachshund Puppies
We have a questionnaire we ask potential clients fill out. This helps us learn what sort of puppy the family is looking for, a go-getter, a couch potato, a show or performance dog, do they have a securely fenced playground for the new pup and who will be the primary care-giver. We want to know ALL the family is in agreement to purchase one of our pups and each knows what is expected. We also want them to know that if ever, for whatever reason, they cannot keep the pup that he/she will always be welcome to return to us.
We have a well thought out contract which clearly outlines the rights and responsibilities of both the new owners as well as ourselves as sellers. We have a comprehensive health guarantee.
